Statement from the Pelican Institute Upon the Release of 2021 LEAP Scores
BATON ROUGE— Pelican Institute CEO Daniel Erspamer released the following statement after the release of the 2021 LEAP test scores.
”Today’s announcement of 2021 LEAP results confirmed what we’ve feared all along, that Louisiana public school students have lost valuable ground in their academic preparation. We must act with urgency to support strong plans for recovery and to accelerate progress over the next few years. This will necessitate transparency in how $4 billion in federal recovery funds are spent to support academic interventions, a strong school accountability system to communicate progress toward proficiency, and expanded educational choices for families while that important recovery work is in progress.
“Pelican stands ready to support families and policymakers in crafting and implementing a comprehensive education plan to maximize student opportunity and move Louisiana forward.”
