Baton Rouge — CEO of the Pelican Institute, Daniel Erspamer released the following statement after the Louisiana Senate passed HB639:
“Louisianans who are exiting the justice system often face countless barriers as they try to get their lives back together. We applaud the Senate for passing HB639 which would allow justice-involved citizens to get a pre-qualification check from a licensing board before going into education and training-related debt in pursuit of an occupational license. HB639 by Rep. Pressly would help lower recidivism rates while protecting public safety by giving people who are reentering society a fair chance at pursuing their chosen career.”
