Poverty should be ESCAPABLE.
We are Meant for More.
Nearly1 in 5 Louisiana residents live in povertyTogether we can chart a path out of poverty
Poverty should be escapable, not just survivable.
We believe that those in poverty deserve dignity and hope. The sad truth is that the current social safety net system is impeding those in poverty and trapping them in a cycle that they cannot escape. Here are just some of the challenges Louisianans in need face:
- A maze of overlapping programs — Instead of lifting people out of poverty, the system often traps them in it.
- Time-wasting red tape — People must navigate dozens of agencies and applications just to get basic support.
- Help that punishes progress — Many families lose benefits the moment they begin to earn more, making it harder to become self-sufficient.
From outdated government rules to disjointed safety net programs, Louisianans are stuck navigating confusing red tape instead of moving forward. It shouldn’t be this hard to get help, find a job, or support a family.
Louisiana is leading the nation in creating a pathway out of dependency and into prosperity and self sufficiency. The legislature and Governor Landry are working hard to reform our workforce and social service programs to transform this broken system.
There’s a better way: The “One-Door” Model
With a focus on building paths out of poverty through work training, assistance, and support systems, we can restore dignity and independence–the intentions of the safety net system in our country. A safety net and programming that works to empower people so they can thrive without government dependence. A “one door” model offers a bold solution: streamline access to support so that recipients can more easily access and utilize the resources they need to meet basic needs, enter the workforce, and achieve self-sufficiency. Let’s make the Louisiana system work for people, not against them.
