While Elon Musk and his band of merry men are digging through the massive federal government budget through D.O.G.E., our own Governor Jeff Landry has created the Fiscal Responsibility Program to streamline Louisiana’s government.

Louisiana’s budget from all sources has ballooned 88% over the last decade, all while our population has declined and other economic indicators have been stagnant. That means there’s plenty of opportunity to streamline government spending, make our agencies more efficient and responsive to the people, and deploy technology to make a smaller government work better.

Legislators and Governor Landry’s team have been hard at work with the Fiscal Responsibility Program, and they have invited help to identify even more opportunities. So, here’s YOUR chance to be the next Elon. Here’s how:

First, log into Louisiana Checkbook – the state’s fiscal transparency website – and review where your tax dollars have been spent.  If you want to dig in on how the state budget works, check out our Citizen’s Guide to the Louisiana Budget (link), too.

Second, as you see items that deserve more scrutiny or if you see places in the budget that could be streamlined and opportunities to deploy technology, submit them in the form below.

We’ll gather them together and regularly submit ideas to the legislators and leaders of the Fiscal Responsibility Program. (And the Pelican Institute team is digging in, too!)

Third, keep going! The more ideas we can give them, the better informed they’ll be and the brighter Louisiana’s future will be!
