Nick Schulz, a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, recently posted a chart that showed prior private sector experience for members of the President’s Cabinet from 1900 to 2009. The chart, which came from a J.P. Morgan research report, is posted below.

Schulz states that the chart excludes the Postmaster General, Navy, War, Health, Education & Welfare, Veterans Affairs, and Homeland Security positions. The current administration is notably well below the historical trends. This limited private sector experience within the Cabinet could explain why President Obama argued that “only government” could provide the needed boost to reverse the economic situation.

While the President’s Cabinet is full of very intelligent people, the J.P. Morgan report does provide some insight into the world view that is held by the President and his closest advisors.
