Baton Rouge —CEO of the Pelican Institute, Daniel Erspamer released the following statement after the Louisiana Legislature passed HB194 to create education savings accounts for kids with disabilities:
“Right now, there are families across Louisiana who have a child with a disability that require access to an individualized education plan. Yet, too many of those families are unable to afford or attain extra help. The Louisiana legislature has now passed HB194 by Representative Rhonda Butler that sets up an Education Savings Account (ESA) for these families and ensures that a child’s zip code does not define their destiny. Parents of kids with disabilities know their child’s needs best, and an ESA will allow them to create a customized educational program in consultation with their doctor. We now call upon the governor to sign this bill to help kids with disabilities flourish in Louisiana.”
