Pelican Institute Preemptively Cancels Itself
Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon to speak at March 7 Solutions Summit
The Pelican Institute has announced that Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon will be the featured speaker at the closing reception at the group’s March 7th Solutions Summit. Shortly after the announcement, Pelican Institute CEO Daniel Erspamer surprised some allies by issuing the following statement:
“At the Pelican Institute, we aim to be proactive and solve issues before they arise when we can. I understand that inviting Mr. Dillon to speak at Solutions Summit this year may be controversial to some, given the Bee’s track record of entertaining tens of millions of readers every month,” said Erspamer. “Further, as humor is no longer en vogue in our political discourse, we know we must act swiftly to signal our virtue before others can. That’s why, as of today, I am canceling the Pelican Institute for Public Policy.”
Pelican Chief of Staff Aly Rau added, “I’m not quite sure what this will mean for the cause of free markets and freedom in Louisiana – or my job, for that matter – but I am proud that our CEO decided to take this important step to protect our organization. It’s the right thing to do, and it captures our forward-thinking spirit at the Pelican Institute. I know that we will surely have a strong comeback.”
Senior Vice President John Kay wondered aloud whether the title of the summit became more or less relevant with this announcement, asking “Can you host a comeback event if you are canceled? If so, does that make it a double comeback? Are we now the Comeback Institute?”
Pelican Institute General Counsel and LL Cool J responded with a brief remark, advising “Don’t call it a comeback.”
Solutions Summit 2022: The Comeback will be hosted on Monday, March 7th at the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center. The event is scheduled to close with a moderately-pretentious rooftop cocktail reception and a toast to marginalization while enjoying the sweeping views of our state’s capitol.
