BATON ROUGE—CEO of the Pelican Institute, Daniel Erspamer released the following statement after the end of the veto override session:

“It is disappointing that the Legislature was unable to override the veto of HB38 that would have brought sunlight to billions of dollars that Louisiana school boards spend each year.

“While the governor believes that transparency of taxpayer dollars is “unnecessary,” we applaud the Jefferson Parish School Board for announcing they will proceed with instituting transparency in their school district despite HB38 being vetoed. Jefferson Parish will join the Lafayette Parish School Board in leading the charge for local school district transparency.

“We call upon all local school boards to follow the example of the Jefferson and Lafayette Parish School Boards and institute financial transparency, so we can ensure that Louisiana taxpayer dollars are being invested in the futures of our children.”
