ell us a little about your background and bio so our readers can get to know you.
I am a sugarcane farmer, Maritime 100-ton captain, and a commercial alligator hunter. I started my marine company from scratch shortly before Covid and navigated my company through business hardships like expensive insurance rates, supply chain issues, and labor shortages. I am very proud of growing my company through these hard times. I love to hunt, fish, and enjoy being a conservationist so our next generation can enjoy our natural resources.
Why do you think it’s so important to get involved in trying to chart a new course for Louisiana?
We need fresh ideas and must think outside the box to fix our issues. We must have policies that attract businesses and people instead of discouraging them.
What is your vision for your community and for Louisiana?
My vision is growth and competitiveness. We have to lower insurance rates, lower taxes, attract new businesses and industries, fix our crumbling infrastructure, and expand educational opportunities in order to compete with our surrounding states.
How will you solve some of the biggest challenges facing our state?
Bring everyone to the table and pass meaningful reforms that help our state.
What was your favorite aspect of your Pelican Leadership Academy experience?
The friendships and bonds formed with all of my classmates. Everyone comes from different backgrounds, but we all want what’s best for Louisiana.
What is your advice for someone who is thinking about getting more involved, and why would applying to the Pelican Leadership Academy be a good idea?
It is a great program that really expands your knowledge on policy and what changes are beneficial to improving our state.
If you had to eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
Duck and deer sausage gumbo, potato salad IN THE BOWL, French bread for dipping.
